Smart waste collection

The Droppie container at Marineterrein is equipped with sensors, scanning, and sorting technology, ensuring that waste is processed automatically. This allows anyone to deposit waste without assistance. The system identifies what’s being deposited and processes it accordingly..

The Droppie app shows where different types of waste can be dropped off. On average, the reward is about 15 cents per kilo. This reward is automatically tracked and credited via the app.

Self-sufficient container

The Droppie container can operate fully off-grid. Using renewable energy, it functions even in locations without a power connection. This means collection points can be set up anywhere in the future.

More than just recycling

The Marineterrein project is not only for deposit-return products. You can also dispose of:

• E-waste
• Plastic packaging
• Deposit-return bottles

Purpose of the experiment

With this experiment, Droppie aims to:

• Improve recycled materials through more efficient collection.
• Gather insights into consumer recycling behavior.
• Optimize logistical processes.

Lessons learned at Marineterrein will help expand the system to other areas of the city.
